The second weekend of the 2023 CFA/VFBV State Firefighting Championships are set to kick off tomorrow in Mooroopna.

Participants for the Urban Senior, Rural Junior and Rural Senior events will get involved in some friendly CFA competition across the weekend, 25 and 26 March.

The first weekend of the Championships was a success with teams in the Urban Juniors events taking the stage. Final results can be found here.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the CFA/VFBV State Firefighting Championships are a great way to promote teamwork among our members.

"Championship competitions offer our members a fantastic opportunity to work together as a team, develop their skills and fitness, while taking part in a vibrant sporting culture," he said.

"Our members are able to strengthen bonds with neighbouring brigades as well as with brigades from across the state by getting together and engaging in some friendly competition.

"These relationships are invaluable for when our members work together on the fireground and when responding to emergencies."

The Championships will feature activities including trade and firefighting equipment displays, corporate merchandise and souvenir store, CFA department displays and food and beverage stalls; as well as the return of the infamous torchlight procession through Shepparton on the evening of Saturday, 25 March.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend the event at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve this weekend, to cheer on our CFA teams.

Deputy Chief Officer Kaylene Jones said the event was a great way for teams to not only compete but also practice their firefighting skills.

"The Championships give our members a chance to come together in a friendly environment where they can encourage and learn from one another ," DCO Jones said.

"It will be fantastic to see our members and the community to come together especially after all of their hard work during the flood response."
