David Marchant has been permanently appointed as Queensland Rail's Chair.
Mr Marchant's appointment follows a six-month stint as the rail operator's interim Chair.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Mr Marchant had guided Queensland Rail with a steady hand during his interim appointment, calling on his considerable experience in the rail sector to support improvements.
"Our focus remains on continuing to make sustainable improvements across the network to deliver better services for commuters in Queensland," Mr Bailey said.
"Queensland Rail has successfully navigated two holiday timetable stress periods, added 46,000 more commuter seats, rolled out more NGR trains on to more lines, and since October 2016 there are 212 train drivers who have been trained or are now in training.
Mr Bailey said Mr Marchant had served on Queensland Rail's board since 2015 and was reappointed to the board for another three years in 2018.
"David received an Order of Australia in 2013 for service to the rail industry and has also occupied leadership roles with the Australian Railway Association and Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board," Mr Bailey said.
"He has been part of Queensland Rail's team through the challenges of recent years and possesses the right mix of skills to lead that team as our region prepares for Cross River Rail.
"South east Queensland's transport infrastructure will undergo a major transformation in the coming years, and I look forward to David helping lead Queensland Rail as part of that change."
