"Jim Chalmers and Anthony Albanese have admitted they're hitting us with $273 billion in taxes Australians didn't vote for", said Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson.
Mr Wilson's comments follow reports in the Sunday Telegraph today that the cost of repealing Labor's family saving taxes including death taxes, taxes targeting first home buyers, renters, small businesses, start-ups and trusts, and stopping Labor's annual inflation tax hit on income taxes through the Coalition's Tax Back Guarantee, would amount to $273 billion over the next 9 years.
"The Liar in the Lodge has said the quiet bit out loud, they're hitting Australians with an additional $273 billion. It might be the first time the Prime Minister has told the truth", Mr Wilson said.
"The Prime Minister and the Treasurer said before the last election over 50 times that they wouldn't slug Australians with these new taxes".
"Labor's tax hits reach every corner of the economy: renters, first home buyers, small businesses, start-ups, and families saving to get ahead. It is a $273 billion tax assault on any self-starting Australians that wants to build for their future".
"Almost 3 weeks on from budget night, the Treasurer still can't say what is actually in his budget, which small businesses will be spared his new taxes, and which won't".
