Champagne Heads to Europe for Economic Talks

Department of Finance Canada

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, will travel to Europe from December 15 to 18 to meet with European government counterparts, officials, business leaders, and strategic partners to reinforce Canada's commitment to shared economic prosperity, resilient supply chains, and strengthened collaboration on both sides of the Atlantic.

Building on the momentum of the recent federal budget-which sets out a clear plan to catalyze more than $500 billion in new private-sector investment over the next five years-the Minister will highlight Canada's strengths as a stable and forward-looking partner in trade, security, innovation, and defence.

Minister Champagne will first visit Paris, France, where he will participate in a meeting of the Haut-Conseil des Affaires Canada-France and speak at the Conférence de Paris. He will also meet with Roland Lescure, French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial, Energy, and Digital Sovereignty, and with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) .

The Minister will then head to London, United Kingdom, to participate in meetings with business stakeholders and to meet with the Right Honourable Rachel Reeves, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Finally, Minister Champagne will travel to Berlin, Germany, to meet with Lars Klingbeil, Federal Minister of Finance of Germany.

This visit builds on a new era in Canada-Europe partnership, from the launch of the Strategic Partnership of the Future and the Security and Defence Partnership in June 2025 to a new industrial policy dialogue in July 2025 - deepening cooperation on security, resilience, and clean growth.
