Charge Upgraded After Footscray Death

Homicide squad detectives have today charged a man with murder following a fatal alleged assault in Footscray earlier this month.

Police were called following reports of an assault at the intersection of Nicholson and Paisley streets around 10am on Sunday, 15 June.

The 62-year-old Footscray man was taken to hospital with critical injuries and passed away on 21 June.

A 43-year-old man of no fixed place of address was arrested on the day of the assault.

At the time, he was charged by detectives from the Homicide Squad with intentionally cause serious injury.

Today the charge was upgraded to murder.

The man is currently remanded in custody and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 20 October.
