Charges – Drug Offences – Alyangula

Groote Eylandt Police have charged two women with drug offences.

On 6 October 2018, a 54-year-old woman collected her 18-year-old granddaughter from the Groote Eylandt Airport. Police allege the two women were located with a traffickable amount of cannabis in their possession which was detected by Drug Detection Dog Bear.

The 18-year-old woman was arrested later that day while the 54-year-old woman was arrested on 24 January 2019.

Both women have been charged with:

• Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug Less Commercial Quantity Indigenous Community

• Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug Traffickable Quantity

They are due to appear in Alyangula Local Court on 18 February 2019.
