Investigations are continuing following a chemical spill incident at a storage facility in Narangba yesterday.
On Sunday July 4, 2021, the Department of Environment and Science (DES) was notified of a bright green chemical which had been released into a stormwater drain.
Four officers were deployed to the site where they secured samples for testing to assess the extent of environmental harm and any associated offences.
At this stage, testing is continuing to determine the chemicals released.
Officers will issue the owner of the storage facility with a statutory notice to progress the clean-up of the impact caused by the chemical spill.
Officers will also assess whether any landowners downstream of the chemical release are potentially impacted.
While the storage facility wasn't required to have an environmental authority, everyone is required to follow the 'general environmental duty' and not cause any environmental harm under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
As the state's environmental regulator, DES will investigate and take enforcement action where environmental harm occurs.
