A small piece of China's rich performing arts tradition will be showcased in Darwin to deliver an experience rarely seen on Australian shores.
Anhui Performing ARTS Ensemble - Charm of Hui Elegant Style from Anhui Normal University will be performing a musical showcase at Darwin's Mindil Beach Casino on October 24.
Charles Darwin University's (CDU) Confucius Institute is hosting the event to mark the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the moon festival, is held around the Autumn equinox (the 15th of the 8th month) to gather families and give thanks for the harvest in the Chinese tradition.
CDU Confucius Institute Director Amy Yu-Vatskalis said it was appropriate the mid-Autumn festival was marked by a traditional performance since the festival has a legacy of about 3000 years.
"We are very excited to have such an ensemble performing here in Darwin," Mrs Yu-Vatskalis said.
"This will be an awe-inspiring experience for the audience with performances that are rarely seen outside of China."
The artists will showcase the Chinese culture through traditional Chinese musical instruments such as the Erhu, Pipa, Guzheng, Suona, Xiao, Sheng, and Bamboo Flute.
The Confucius Institute will also present cultural performances such as Tai Chi and traditional Chinese dances.
Mrs Yu-Vatskalis said the performance was one of many ways the institute educates and builds awareness of the Chinese culture in the Northern Territory.
"We also support teachers to deliver Chinese language courses in school, and cultural classes such as calligraphy and tai chi," she said.
"We have one of the most active Institutes in the country, where the Darwin community can connect with the Chinese culture."
She said it has been the reputation of the Institute that has helped to bring the Anhui Performing ARTS Ensemble to Darwin.
