From: Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions

The Government of Canada awards $100,000 in funding to the Laval Smart Mobility Incubator and Accelerator (CIAMIL)

May 10, 2019 - Laval, Quebec - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Centre d'incubation et d'accélération en mobilité intelligente à Laval - Laval Smart Mobility Incubator and Accelerator (CIAMIL) is a non-profit organization (NPO) in the smart mobility sector. To help it go ahead with its innovative integration project, this incubator, which was created in August 2017, will receive a $100,000 non-repayable contribution from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

The funding will allow the organization to carry out its mandate, which involves contributing to the development of the mobility of people and goods by creating a network of strategic and technological partners. Specifically, CIAMIL will use the CED contribution to acquire the physical and cloud computing infrastructure required to develop smart mobility solutions. The organization will thus be able to achieve its objectives through the use of innovative emerging technologies such as Big Data analytics and manipulation, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie‒Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue. With the help of this Government of Canada assistance, CIAMIL will be able to set up a networking program based on a collaborative dynamic. This type of networking will speed up the validation of new concepts and the resulting technological applications by enabling testing in real conditions of use. Through CIAMIL, businesses and entrepreneurs will also be able to take advantage of the assistance and facilitation services provided by a network of specialized professionals and experienced mentors.

Communities need to build on innovation to strategically diversify and develop sustainable regional competitive advantages. Supporting community transition and diversification is therefore a Government of Canada priority.

"Entrepreneurial spirit must be supported, especially when the resourcefulness and know-how of our entrepreneurs leads directly to the development of facilitating solutions for Canadians and Canadian businesses. The CIAMIL is an organization that will actively contribute to the economic vitality of the Greater Montréal region. I am proud of the Government of Canada's support for their innovative and unifying project."

The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue

"Our government is giving Canadians the means to become more competitive and to thrive in the global economy. The funding announced today for CIAMIL is in line with Canada's competitive advantages generated through the organization's innovative project, and will boost economic growth and position Laval as a major player in the smart mobility sector."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

"This contribution is very good news for CIAMIL. Since the subject of mobility remains as important as ever, we are convinced that this financial assistance will help CIAMIL develop innovative smart and sustainable mobility solutions for the Laval area and elsewhere in Quebec."

Marc Demers, Mayor of Laval

"Funding for initiatives such as CIAMIL is excellent news in terms of speeding up the development of new innovative transport technologies, and the results will benefit the entire industry. It is essential that we support local entrepreneurs who want to invest in this strategic sector and bring together strengths and expertise in order to maximize their chances of success."
