Nominations are open for City of Ryde's 2024 Citizen of the Year Awards, when the local community gets a chance to honour some of its most deserving members.

City of Ryde Mayor Clr Sarkis Yedelian OAM said the awards – which will be announced at a special ceremony on Thursday 18 January 2024 – will be a fantastic way to start the new year.

"These awards give our community a chance to recognise the deeds and achievements of some outstanding individuals," he said.

"Our City is full of wonderful, inspirational stories – and we believe the notable accomplishments of the people in our community deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated."

There are three categories in next year's awards:

  • Citizen of the Year recognises outstanding service to the community over an extended period.
  • Young Citizen of the Year recognises outstanding service to the community over an extended period by a young person aged 12-25.
  • Community Heroes 2024 recognises the contributions made by members of our local community. These heroes may have contributed in the past or present or may no longer be with us.

The awards are open to all Australian citizens living in the City of Ryde. The Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to Australian citizens between the ages of 12 and 25 years (as at 18 January 2023).

The awards are held under the auspices of the Australia Day Council of NSW and judging is conducted by a local selection panel.

Nominations close on Sunday 26 November 2023. Go to www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/citizen for more details and to find the nomination form.
