The Gold Coast's nature-based tourism pipeline continues to expand with the City's latest round of funding now open to support sustainable projects.
The City's Nature-Based Tourism program launched in 2025 with more than $2.5 million worth of funding provided to 23 local tourism businesses across the Gold Coast.
From Friday 1 May, Round 2 funding opportunities will be available including small grants under $100,000 for small activations and large grants over $100,000 for significant nature-based tourism projects and associated infrastructure.
Another approximate $2.5 million in funding will be provided in Round 2.
"We developed the Nature-Based Tourism grants to help support tourism operators to develop low-impact, immersive experiences that promote appreciation and conservation of our natural environment and cultural heritage," Mayor Tom Tate said.
"The Gold Coast is one of Australia's most ecologically diverse cities with pristine beaches and world-heritage listed rainforests, and these natural environments contribute billions to the local economy already.
"With 1 in 5 global travellers looking for nature-based experiences, this program is going to continue to support our local tourism businesses to create experiences that are new and unique for our visitors."
Last year's round of funding has seen a number of nature-based tourism projects underway including a humpback whale and discovery learning hub, wellness immersions, bike park upgrades, indigenous and wildlife experiences and eco-tours all due for completion this year.
"These grants are a growth opportunity for sustainable businesses who want to become a leader in eco-tourism and protect the Gold Coast's natural assets," Mayor Tate added.
"I'm looking forward to seeing what further projects our local tourism businesses can create to highlight the green behind the gold."
