City facilities close for 5-day Victorian lockdown

In line with today's announcement by the Victorian Government, the majority of City of Greater Geelong public facilities will be closed for five days from 11.59pm, Friday 12 February.

This includes all indoor and outdoor aquatic and leisure facilities, customer service centres, Belmont Market, City offices, The Carousel, The Potato Shed, National Wool Museum, The fOrT, public halls, community hubs and libraries.

All office-based City employees will work from home

In accordance with the Victorian Government directions, our childcare centres will remain open to assist parents to continue to work at home or in essential services outside the home.

Public outdoor playgrounds and skate parks will also remain open.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher encouraged the Greater Geelong community to take care of one another.

"I acknowledge how difficult this news is – it really is disappointing – and my thoughts are with members of the community and all local businesses who are significantly impacted," Mayor Asher said.

"For anyone experiencing understandable mental stress and anxiety from today's announcement, please reach out and seek help.

"There is a lot of emotion around the response to the latest outbreak and it is important to offer support to friends and family – pick up the phone and talk it through.

"The City of Greater Geelong will follow state government health advice and the temporary restrictions that are aiming to keep everyone safe and healthy.

"We hope that by sticking to the restrictions as a community now, it will only be a short few days and then we can get back to the way of life we enjoy as quickly as possible."
