City Of Boroondara Welcomes Wes Gault As New Mayor

Glenferrie Ward Councillor Wes Gault has been appointed mayor for the 2025-26 council year. This marks Cr Gault's first term as mayor.

Cr Gault was elected by fellow councillors at the Council meeting on Monday 17 November 2025. He has represented Glenferrie Ward since October 2020 and served as deputy mayor in 2021-22.

A long-time Boroondara resident, Cr Gault has a deep commitment to the community. He brings a wealth of experience and a background in engineering, architecture, and international business to the mayorship.

"I'm honoured to serve as mayor and thank my fellow councillors for their confidence in my leadership," Cr Gault said.

"Together, we'll keep delivering on what matters for the communities we represent."

"As a group, we're committed to working tirelessly to manage any negative impacts of the state government's Activity Centre Program and its densification aims. New housing needs to respect and enhance the characteristics that make Boroondara a spectacular place to live, work, and play."

"We'll oversee planning for revitalised shopping strips and drive new climate action initiatives, such as reducing CO₂ emissions, improved tree canopy and more connected walking and cycling paths."

"My councillor colleagues and I are also keen to see the progress of key capital projects, including the Michael Tuck Stand at Glenferrie Oval and the Kew Recreation Centre."

"I'm excited for the decisions we will make together that will shape Boroondara for the years to come," Cr Gault said.

Cr Gault expressed his gratitude to outgoing mayor Cr Sophie Torney for her dedication and achievements and reaffirmed his commitment to building on the Council's progress in collaboration with his colleagues.

The mayor announced the new committee chairs for 2025-26:

  • Cr Victor Franco - Urban Planning Delegated Committee
  • Cr Rob Baillieu - Services Delegated Committee

Newly elected deputy mayor Cr Shima Ibuki said she is excited to work closely with Cr Gault:

"I'm delighted to serve alongside Cr Gault as we work together to deliver for the people of Boroondara."
