The City of Canada Bay is inviting the community to celebrate Make Music Day with a free live music program at Rhodes Recreation Centre, launching on Sunday, 21 June 2026 from 12-4pm.
Make Music Day is a global celebration of music-making held annually. First launched in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique, the event is now celebrated in more than 750 cities across 120 countries.
This year, the City of Canada Bay will mark the occasion by launching Make Music: Sounds in the Lounge, a new live music series showcasing local performers and musical acts in the Community Lounge at Rhodes Recreation Centre.
"Make Music Day is about celebrating creativity, connection and the joy that music brings to our everyday lives," City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said.
"We are proud to support local musicians and create more opportunities for our community to enjoy live music close to home."
"Rhodes Recreation Centre is becoming a vibrant community space, and this program will invigorate it even more with live music in the heart of Rhodes."
Following the launch event, Make Music: Sounds in the Lounge will continue every Thursday from 3-8pm, from 25 June to 30 July 2026.
"Whether you're stopping by after work, meeting friends, attending an after-school workshop or simply looking for something new to enjoy in Rhodes, Sounds in the Lounge is a wonderful way to spend an evening and support local talent," Mayor Megna said.
The Make Music Day program also coincides with Council's pilot street performance permit program, running from May to October 2026, which gives musicians, performing artists and other creative talents the opportunity to perform at designated sites across the City of Canada Bay.
