The City of Casey is pleased announce that Councillor Stefan Koomen has been unanimously re-elected as Mayor, and Cranbourne Gardens Ward Councillor Michelle Crowther unanimously elected Deputy Mayor at last night's Council Meeting.
Mayor Koomen says "I'm honoured and humbled to be re-elected as your Mayor. I'd like to thank my fellow Councillors for their continued support and trust. This past year has been both challenging and rewarding and it's a privilege to once again lead our Council group.
I also would like to acknowledge and thank the outgoing Deputy Mayor Cr Melinda Ambros, whose support, time and commitment to our group has been invaluable.
Over the past year, I have had the privilege to meet many residents, community groups and organisations. It's their diversity, dedication and care that make Casey such a great place to live. I can't wait to once again serve our community as Mayor and work together to make a difference."
Newly elected Deputy Mayor Michelle Crowther says "It's an honour to be elected to serve as your Deputy Mayor, I'd like to thank my fellow Councillors for their support and trust in me. I promise to continue to work hard and support the Councillor group to achieve great outcomes for the Casey community.
As a Councillor, a highlight for me has been the opportunity to meet so many community volunteers and groups. Now as Deputy Mayor, I'm looking forward to meeting even more groups, together we can make Casey thrive. Importantly, I want to let our residents know that you are at the heart of all we do. We are your voice, and we'll continue to listen, advocate and deliver what is important to you."
Each year, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by Councillors for a one-year term. This annual process keeps local leadership transparent, fair and responsive, ensuring shared leadership, fresh perspectives and the opportunity for all Councillors to undertake a leadership position.
Council congratulates both Cr Koomen and Cr Crowther and look forward to their leadership and commitment in serving our community in the year ahead.
