In a move to make alfresco dining more accessible to businesses, the City of Perth Commissioners have voted to remove outdoor dining fees altogether.
The decision aims to position the City more competitively against neighbouring Local Governments, and make it easier for food and beverage businesses to gain outdoor dining approval.
Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said the move is a step in the right direction for the City of Perth, addressing the concerns of local businesses and the community.
"Outdoor dining has been a priority for the Commissioners, and we're glad to see an outcome that benefits not only businesses, but City visitors who want to make the most of Perth's amazing weather," Mr Lumsden Said.
"The updated policy and the accompanying web based application form aim to cut the red tape, and allow businesses to more easily incorporate outdoor dining to their operation."
The updated outdoor dining policy and guidelines will also allow patrons to consume alcohol in alfresco areas while standing, where the business has the appropriate liquor license.
"These new measures will allow City businesses to fully capitalise on their outdoor spaces, and align the service they provide inside their establishment to their outdoor dining area," Mr Lumsden said.
"We're proud to be supporting Perth's food and beverage scene, and the new policy and guidelines aim to make the City a more vibrant place to visit and enjoy."
The updated Outdoor Dining Policy and Guidelines will take effect from 1 February 2019.
