City Of Swan Welcomes New Council Members

Newly-elected City of Swan Council Members gathered at Midland Town Hall on Wednesday, October 22, for a swearing-in ceremony after the Local Government Elections held on Saturday, October 18.

Cr Charlie Zannino was elected Deputy Mayor and eight vacancies were filled across the City's five wards, returning the Council from 13 to 15 members.

Two vacancies were created by Council Member resignations, which took place earlier this year.

The Western Australian Electoral Commission reported that this year's City of Swan voter participation rate was 29.7 per cent of the 113,770 residents eligible to vote.

Local Government Elections in Western Australia are held every two years on the third Saturday in October.

The confirmed results are:

Altone Ward

  • Jennifer Catalano – four-year term
  • Shaynon Dean – four-year term
  • Nav Kaur – two-year term.

Midland/Guildford Ward

  • Sarah Howlett – four-year term.

Pearce Ward

  • Aaron Bowman – four-year term
  • Maria Toquero – four-year term.

Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward

  • Charlie Zannino – four-year term.

Whiteman Ward

  • Mel Congerton – four-year term.

Council will be responsible for progressing the City of Swan's strategic direction and the initiatives in the City's recently adopted Strategic Community Plan 2025-35.

Stephen Cain, City of Swan CEO, congratulated the successful candidates on their election to Council.
