City seeking community input for new Armstrong Creek library & community hub

The City of Greater Geelong is seeking ideas and suggestions for the design of a new library and community hub in the Armstrong Creek growth area.

Together with the Geelong Regional Library Corporation, the City is delivering the environmentally- sensitive, state-of-the-art facility to meet the diverse needs of the growing local community.

Melbourne architects Buchan have been selected to design the building, and will collaborate with the community to embed community needs identified through a broad engagement process

The 5-star green facility will offer flexible community meeting rooms including accessible spaces for all to share.

Modern technology will be integrated within the multi-storey building, while allowing flexibility for future innovations to be incorporated over time.

As well as regular weekly activities for children and adults and an extensive book collection, the library will have an emphasis on enabling alternative and interactive learning through cutting-edge digital technology. In addition to supporting lifelong learning, the facility will provide important opportunities for social connection and building a sense of community.

This engagement process presents residents with an important opportunity to be involved in designing their community spaces and setting the tone for future community infrastructure.

The online survey is open until 30 March at www.yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au and interested community members can also register their interest in attending further engagement activities on this topic.

Councillor Ron Nelson, Chair of the Geelong Regional Library Corporation encouraged community members to participate in the survey to help ensure the community spaces would meet community needs.

We want to hear the community's vision and aspirations for the hub, including what you would use the spaces for and how we can help accommodate those uses.
As Australia's only UNESCO City of Design, we have a unique opportunity to deliver a building that helps to define the public identity of Armstrong Creek through bold and brave design, and genuinely responds to current and future community needs.
We want to hear from young people and adults, school children and retirees, to understand how people in different stages of life enjoy using local community libraries and to understand what they would like to see incorporated into the design.
