Townsville City Council is working with the Townsville and Thuringowa RSL Sub-Branches to host two Anzac Day commemorations on Monday (25 April 2022).
Townsville City will host a Dawn Service from 5:20am at Anzac Memorial Park, followed by a parade along The Strand from Strand Park at 9am. Thuringowa will host a Dawn Service from 5:40am at the Thuringowa Cenotaph, followed by a parade along Ross River Road from Weir School at 9am, as well a mid-morning service at the Thuringowa Cenotaph.
The City Dawn Service and Parade will also be livestreamed for the public to experience from home.
Mayor Jenny Hill said Anzac Day was close to the hearts of Townsville locals because of the deep connection the city has to the military.
"As a proud garrison city, Townsville is home to thousands of current and ex-servicepeople. Anzac Day is a day for us to reflect on the sacrifice that the members of our military have made in the years that have passed and the commitment they have made to our country into the future," Cr Hill said.
"Council has worked closely with the Townsville RSL Sub-Branch and the Thuringowa RSL Sub-Branch to deliver this year's Anzac Day commemorations, paying respect to those who have lost their lives in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
