The City of Greater Bendigo is undertaking a Finding Flood Solutions project to guide decisions about infrastructure development to reduce the potential impact of flooding in Central Bendigo and is calling on the community to have input into the study and participate in discussions.
City of Greater Bendigo Manager Engineering Ian McLauchlan said parts of Central Bendigo can flood following major rainfall.
"We know flooding from Bendigo Creek and other waterways in this area isn't a topic people generally think about, but significant floods have occurred in the past in 2010, 2011 and 2016 that have damaged property, roads and community assets," Mr McLauchlan said.
"The frequency and extent of flooding from creeks following major rainfall is predicted to increase in the future so this is a topic we do need to be thinking about, particularly for people who have properties in the vicinity of these waterways.
"The first step is to gather local feedback, information and ideas and all residents, property owners, businesses and organisations are invited to have their say and participate in discussions to help shape future investment outcomes.
"We know there's a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and skill in the community and we are keen to hear interesting stories and experiences from past floods from everyone."
The Finding Flood Solutions study and related community discussions are taking place from June to November 2021.
