City to undertake stormwater investigation for mitigation of local flooding in Heathcote township

The City of Greater Bendigo is undertaking a Stormwater Investigation for the mitigation of local flooding to determine the needs of infrastructure to reduce the potential impacts of flooding in Heathcote and would like to hear from residents who have knowledge of flooding in the township.

City of Greater Bendigo Engineering Manager Brett Martini said the investigation will focus on understanding the stormwater impacts to the town and mitigating the stormwater and associated local flooding risk from tributaries of McIvor Creek such as Caledonia Gully, Possum Gully, Long Gully, Golden Gully, Dead Horse Gully and Parsons Gully that cause regular stormwater damage.

"Several locations within the township can experience flooding following major rainfall and the purpose of the investigation is to reduce the risk and impact of flash flooding by providing a holistic approach in line with future planning for the township," Mr Martini said.

"The City of Greater Bendigo is interested in gathering information and ideas from local residents as we know there is a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and skill in the community and we are keen to hear interesting stories from past floods and any ideas people may have.

"This work will build on the Heathcote Flood Study that was undertaken in 2016."
