Citylink pop up cracks down on speeding commuters

Police carried out a pop-up speed detection operation on Citylink this morning, where 53 driving offences were detected in just two hours.

The operation aimed to tackle early morning speeding on the section of Citylink between Bulla Road and Dynon Road.

Whilst monitoring traffic in both directions between 5am and 7am, police recorded 36 speeding offences, where 7 drivers lost their license.

Other offences included people driving while suspended, as well as incidents where they were driving in lanes displaying a red cross. There was also one drug driving offence.

Acting Senior Sergeant Dean Pickering from Operation Achilles said:

"We are aware that some early morning commuters believe they can speed and not be detected. The number of people driving dangerously is extremely concerning.

"This morning was about sending a clear message, do the right thing on the roads and stick to the speed limit."
