The Hawkesbury region's environment is one of its greatest assets, and one we all have a responsibility to protect.
As part of our efforts and journey towards achieving net zero emissions, Council has published a new Sustainability and Net Zero Dashboard via our OpenData portal available from Council's website at data.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/pages/sustainability-landing-page
This tool is available for the entire community and allows everyone to view data and information for the whole of LGA, resident, non-residential (commercial, education, health, industrial and retail businesses) and Council.
The data includes emissions from sources, such as electricity, gas, water, waste, wastewater and transport, and emissions reduction, from activities including implementing solar projects, increasing tree canopy coverage, purchasing green electricity and to use and transition to electric vehicles.
For instance, did you know that Council use 24.9 per cent less electricity than it did in 2016-17? Or that during 2022-23 our City generated 13.5 per cent more waste than it did in 2016-17, resulting in a 15.7 per cent rise in emissions?
Understanding where our emissions and reductions are coming from is a crucial step in our City's sustainability journey. In the coming months, Council will develop and release educational material to assist the community in accessing and analysing the information and data.
Council Officers will continually improve and update the Dashboard as more data and information becomes available to improve Council's transparency and accountability with regards to sustainability and net zero.
