Clayton Utz advises Squadron Energy on acquisition of CWP Renewables

Corporate / Energy & Resources partners Brett Cohen and Stuart MacGregor led our multi-disciplinary team advising Squadron on its contested bid. Other key team members included transaction leads, special counsel Armin Fazely and senior associate Tristan Appleby, and lawyers Luke Crofts and Morgan Gabriel. Banking & Financial Services partner Rohan Mishra and senior associate Jackie Leggett provided key support on the financing aspects.

CWP Renewables has a broad portfolio of wind, solar and firming projects in operation or under construction, generating 1.1GW of power in New South Wales and Victoria, along with an unparalleled renewable energy development pipeline.

The transaction will see Squadron Energy become Australia's largest renewable energy investor, operator and developer, with a renewable energy operating portfolio of 2.4GW and Australian development pipeline of 20GW. Squadron Energy is currently building the $3 billion Clarke Creek renewable energy hub in central Queensland (on which Clayton Utz is providing legal support), and will be starting construction of another 2GW worth of projects within the next 18 months.

Commenting on our role, joint lead partner Brett Cohen said:

We're pleased to have been given this incredible opportunity to work with the Squadron Energy team on a transformational transaction which will see it play a critical role in Australian's energy transition.
