Fremantle Community Legal Centre is inviting the community to pause, reflect and remember at a public memorial exhibition marking the international day to raise awareness and call for the elimination of violence against women and children.
The White Ribbon Day 2026 Public Memorial Exhibition will be held from Friday 27 November to Sunday 29 November 2026 at the Walyalup Civic Centre foyer, providing a powerful and respectful space to honour women and children who have lost their lives due to domestic and family violence.
The memorial exhibition will feature a white rose representing each life lost in Australia since January 2026, with a story displayed alongside every rose. Visitors are invited to walk through the exhibition, read the stories and reflect on the lives represented and the devastating impact of family and domestic violence on individuals, families and communities.
The exhibition will formally open at 9.30am on Friday 27 November, with a community opening event and guest speakers.
This year's White Ribbon Day theme, 'It Takes All of Us', highlights the collective responsibility we share in creating safer relationships, challenging harmful attitudes and preventing violence against women.
As part of the exhibition, visitors will be invited to contribute to a community commitment wall, sharing a personal action, pledge or reflection about how they can help build safer, more respectful communities. Throughout the weekend, these contributions will form a growing visual representation of the many ways people can play a part in preventing violence and supporting positive change.
Mayor Ben Lawver said the exhibition provides an opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance, reflection and solidarity.
"Behind every statistic is a person, a family and a story. This exhibition honours the lives lost to domestic and family violence while encouraging all of us to consider the role we can play in creating safer communities."
Fremantle Community Legal Centre's Principal Solicitor Judy McLean said White Ribbon Day is a stark reminder that, despite decades of advocacy and awareness, we still have a long way to go to end violence against women and children.
"The imbalance of power that underpins so much of this violence continues to persist, and for too many women, home remains the most dangerous place to be."
"We all say, 'enough is enough,' but if that is true, why are these tragic outcomes still occurring? The challenge before us is not whether we know the problem exists, the real question is: what will it take for respect, equality and safety to prevail over control, fear and violence?"
White Ribbon Day is Australia's national day for raising awareness and taking action to end men's violence against women and children. It serves as an opportunity to remember those whose lives have been lost, acknowledge the ongoing impacts of family and domestic violence, and encourage conversations about respect, equality and safety.
The community is encouraged to visit the exhibition over the weekend, spend time reflecting on the stories shared and consider how they can contribute to a future free from violence.
The White Ribbon Day event is hosted by the Fremantle Community Legal Centre and supported by the City of Fremantle.
