Keeping the kids entertained over the long summer break is about to get a little easier, with Townsville City Council preparing its December/January School Holiday Guide.
Townsville City Council is calling on local businesses, community groups, sporting clubs and activity providers to submit their free and low-cost activities for inclusion in the popular guide.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the digital guide brought together affordable activities from across Townsville in one convenient place, helping families plan ahead for the summer break.
"Any parent knows the words 'I'm bored' can start pretty quickly once the school holidays roll around, especially over the long summer break," Cr Dametto said.
"The School Holiday Guide gives families one place to see what's happening across Townsville and discover affordable ways to get the kids out of the house or even try something new.
"Townsville is home to an incredible range of sporting clubs, community organisations, cultural groups and businesses that put on fantastic activities for kids and young people, and we want to showcase as many of them as possible.
"Whether it's a workshop, sports clinic, arts activity, community event, or something completely different - if you're running a free or low-cost activity these holidays, we want to hear from you.
"Not only is it a great opportunity to promote your organisation, but it also helps local families discover new experiences and make the most of the summer holidays."
The School Holiday Guide also features activities and programs from Council's own theatres, galleries and libraries.
The Guide will be published as an interactive digital flipbook on Council's website from late November and will feature activities running throughout the school holiday period from 5 December 2026 to 26 January 2027.
Submissions close at 11:30pm on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
Activity providers are also encouraged to list their events on What's On Townsville to further increase visibility across the community.
