Federation Council has resolved to call for open tenders for the operation, management and maintenance of the Urana Caravan Park and the Urana Waterfront Pavilion.

Council will seek tenders under section 55 of the NSW Local Government Act 1993 and section 166(a) of the NSW Local Government (General) Regulation 2021. The tender structure will invite submissions for the combined management of the Caravan Park, Waterfront Pavilion and surrounding public toilets and barbeques while also allowing operators to tender for the sites separately.

To ensure seamless service and operational continuity for visitors and residents during the tendering period, Council also voted to extend the current management contract for the caravan park and the license of the waterfront pavilion under their existing terms until 30 June 2027, or earlier by mutual agreement.

Federation Council Mayor Cr, Cheryl Cook said the decision balances long-term strategic vision with practical operational needs.

"The Urana Caravan Park and the Urana Waterfront Pavilion are vital economic and social anchors for our community, driving local tourism and offering key recreational amenities for residents," Mayor Cook said.

"By expanding our tender process to allow for both joint and separate management options, Council is creating the flexibility needed to attract high-quality operators while we resolve underlying crown land matters and investigate the best long-term model for these facilities".

The dual option tendering structure gives Council the adaptability to assess whether combined or standalone management delivers the greatest value, service quality and financial sustainability for the community.
