Access to essential health services shouldn't depend on where you live.
Council has mapped key health and community services available to Hobsons Bay residents and identified a significant challenge: many specialised services are located outside our municipality.
While some services are available locally, residents often need to travel to neighbouring areas to access important supports including mental health services, family violence support, disability services, alcohol and other drug services and community medical assistance.
For residents experiencing vulnerability, financial pressure or crisis, travelling further for support can create additional barriers. The below map highlights the challenge showing that more than 97,000 Hobsons Bay residents are increasingly required to travel to access essential family violence, alcohol and other drug, disability, allied and mental health services.
The availability of services close to home plays an important role in ensuring people can access support when they need it.
