There's still time to have your say on a draft plan outlining projects and services to be delivered across the region during 2021-22, with feedback closing next Friday 28 May.
Operational plans are prepared each year as part of Council's commitment to implementing its four year Delivery Program. The draft plan for 2021-22 is currently on exhibition, alongside the draft annual operating budget and proposed fees and charges.
As well as delivering on the projects, services and facilities outlined in the Delivery Program, this year's operational plan has added context as the local community recovers from the impact of recent bushfires and floods. Reflected throughout the plan is Council's commitment to delivering for the community in a way that adds value and builds trust.
Important projects and initiatives that are outlined in the draft plan include a continuation of road improvement works through the $100 million road upgrade program, adopting the region's first Climate Change Strategy and moving into the implementation phase, an upgrade for the Gloucester water supply system, and initiatives such as the Biodiversity Framework and Greening Strategy aimed at managing our natural assets.
The draft budget also sets out details of the rates harmonisation process that is required by legislation to be in place for the new financial year. Under the new rating structure, which aims to distribute the rates burden more equitably across the region, over 80% of property-owners will either have no change, or experience less than a $50 a year increase, while some will experience a decrease to their annual rates. Property-owners will receive personalised notification of the harmonised rates structure, and are encouraged to use the online rates calculator to understand how the changes will impact their individual circumstances.
