Closure Of Operation Yankee Mako

Detectives from the Crime Command Organised Crime Gangs Group have charged two men with several offences following an investigation targeting the trafficking of dangerous drugs across Queensland.

Operation Yankee Mako, run by officers from the Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad, targeted the distribution of cocaine, MDMA and a number of other illicit drugs.

Search warrants were executed at two Currumbin addresses and one Nerang address on 13 May, where its alleged 23.5kg of cocaine, 10,000 MDMA pills, a quantity of cannabis and steroids were seized.

Additionally, officers located $60,000 in cash, as well as a money counter, prescription medication and encrypted mobile phones.

A 57-year-old Tugun man was charged with two counts each of possess dangerous drugs MDMA and possess dangerous drug schedule 1 over schedule 4 amount. He was further charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, supply cocaine, possess dangerous drug cannabis, possess dangerous drug cocaine and possess tainted property.

Additionally, he was charged with three counts of possessing anything used in the commission of crime.

A 36-year-old Nerang man was charged with two counts of possessing anything used in the commission of crime. He was also charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drug schedule 1 over schedule 4 amount, possess controlled drug, possess dangerous drugs steroids, possess tainted property and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

They will both appear in Southport Magistrates Court on 14 May.

Detective Inspector Craig Bowman, Operations Manager for the Organised Crime Gangs Group, said the operation had successfully removed a significant quantity of dangerous drugs from the community.

"This operation has been highly successful, resulting in substantial drug seizures that underscore the severity of these offences.

"Thanks to the dedication and expertise of our officers, we have prevented a large amount of harmful drugs from reaching our streets and ensured two individuals involved in serious criminal activity are now being held to account."
