CLP Funding To Protect Treasured Cemeteries Across NT

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering funding of over $500,000 to councils and local organisations to help protect cemeteries across the Territory.The funding will help maintain these important community assets. Cemeteries are places of remembrance and local history, and this funding will help communities keep them safe, respectful and well looked after for generations to come.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is investing more than $500,000 to help councils and community organisations maintain, improve and preserve cemeteries across the Northern Territory.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development Steve Edgington said the CLP Government was supporting councils and community organisations with funding of over $500,000 to care for, improve and protect cemeteries across the Territory.

"As part of our year of growth, certainty and security, the CLP Government is backing councils and community organisations to safeguard and enhance cemeteries and honour the memories of those laid to rest there," Minister Edgington said.

"Cemeteries are places of remembrance and local history, and this funding will help communities keep them safe, respectful and well maintained for generations to come.

"We're ensuring councils and local organisations have the resources they need to maintain cemeteries to a high standard and preserve these important places of reflection and remembrance."

Organisations will receive funding under the Regional and Remote Burial Areas Grant Program:

Coomalie Community Government Council - $51,500 for improvements to Coomalie Bush Cemetery.Belyuen Community Government Council - $46,500 for expansion and upgrades to Delissaville Cemetery.Barkly Regional Council - $88,000 for cemetery maintenance equipment to assist in upkeep at burial areas in Tennant Creek and Elliott.Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation - $50,000 for a ceremonial shade structure at the Gangan burial ground in Gangan homeland.Marthakal Homelands and Resource Centre Aboriginal Corporation - $35,000 to support improvements at Mapuru and Yinyikay.Milingimbi & Outstations Progress Resources Aboriginal Corporation - $9,500 for creation and freight of signage and information map at burial areas across the Crocodile islands region.MyCDP Ngukurr Numbulwar Pty Ltd- $20,000 for purchase of a trailer for secure storage and transport of grave shoring equipment for burial areas across Ngukurr, Numbulwar, Rittarangu and Jilkminggan.Roper Gulf Regional Council - $70,000 for a fencing upgrade at Manyallaluk cemetery.West Arnhem Regional Council - $59,500 for finalisation works at Manayingkarirra cemetery.West Daly Regional Council - $100,000 for essential site works at the Wadeye cemetery.
