The Inner South community has shown strong support for the ACT Government's $53 million plan to expand and modernise Telopea Park School, while providing useful feedback to inform the next stage of the project.
The pre-Development Application (DA) YourSay Listening Report, released today, captures feedback from a six-week engagement with residents, students, parents, local businesses and other members of the community.
Community members were asked to share their views on site plans for the project, which will deliver:
- new general and specialist learning spaces
- a multipurpose hall including a double gymnasium
- 81 additional car parking spaces and
- new green spaces and landscaping enhancements
During the engagement, the project team held almost 250 face-to-face conversations and attracted more than 1,000 webpage visits. Many participants recognised the need to expand and modernise Telopea Park School to accommodate future growth and support quality education in the area.
Participants also welcomed opportunities for community access to the proposed new facilities and recognised the potential for additional sporting and multipurpose spaces to benefit the wider Inner South community.
The Telopea Park School Expansion and Modernisation Project is part of a wider program to improve and deliver modern, sustainable and high-quality learning environments for students across Canberra.
Feedback will inform the next steps of the project as the ACT Government begins work on a DA, following approval of the Major Plan Amendment in September.
The community will have another opportunity to review detailed plans and technical documentation and provide feedback through the DA process.
