Council has secured $40,000 through the Victorian Government's 2026 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to develop detailed designs for new changerooms at the Bridge Street Pavilion in Eltham.

The funding is an important first step towards renewing the outdated facilities at the home of the Eltham Rugby Union Football Club, helping ensure important community infrastructure meets the needs of all players, officials and volunteers.

The design work will support Council's advocacy for a $1.6 million State Government commitment to update facilities to a modern, inclusive pavilion with fit-for-purpose changerooms, toilets, showers, storage and first aid facilities.

Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner said the funding would help Council take the next step in planning for the future of the reserve.

"This funding allows us to progress the design of new changerooms that better support the needs of our growing sporting community and create a more welcoming environment for everyone who uses the sportsground," Cr Joiner said.

It's an important first step that complements the significant investment already underway at Bridge Street Rugby Field, where Council is delivering a $1.22 million reconstruction of the playing surface expected to be completed in early 2027.

The project will provide a high-quality playing surface that can better withstand winter conditions and increased use.

Bridge Street Pavilion is home to Nillumbik's only rugby union club and is a heavily used community sporting reserve. Updated facilities would help remove barriers to participation and provide a contemporary, inclusive environment that reflects the needs of today's sporting community.
