Mt William Road Upgrade Sealing Works Complete

The $6.25 million Mt William Road upgrade has reached another major milestone, with the final two kilometres of sealing works successfully completed last week.

Final works, including line marking and guidepost installation, will be completed in the coming weeks. Once finished, the upgraded stretch of road will deliver a smoother, safer journey between key local intersections, significantly boosting access for agricultural freight, tourists, and residents.

Jointly funded by the Australian Government's Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and Ararat Rural City Council, the project involved full reconstruction of approximately six kilometres of Mt William Road.

The scope of work included excavation and removal of degraded seal and road pavement, installation of new, reinforced base layers, and modern safety barriers and upgraded signage to improve traffic management.

Throughout the project, Council worked closely with local landholders and motorists to minimise disruption, providing regular updates through on-site signage, direct outreach, and digital channels.

Once completed, the project delivers significant regional benefits, including enhanced road safety, improved freight efficiency for local agribusinesses, and stronger connectivity between rural communities and regional hubs.

Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Officer, Phuong Au, highlighted the importance of the project, "This upgrade is a prime example of the progress Council are making on our local road infrastructure, and this will remain firmly at the forefront of our focus."

"By strengthening one of the municipality's strategic rural routes, this project supports long-term economic growth while reinforcing Council's commitment to a resilient and accessible local road network." Ms Au said.
