Residents across the Cessnock LGA are encouraged to embrace the spirit of giving this festive season by donating to Council's annual Christmas Appeal.
From now until Friday 4 December 2026, donations of non-perishable food and new toys can be left under the Christmas banner in the customer service area at Council's Administration Building on Vincent Street, Cessnock.
All donations will remain local, with eight not-for-profit community organisations signed on to distribute the items to those in need across the Cessnock LGA.
The organisations partnering with Council for this year's Christmas Appeal are:
- Carries Place
- Cessnock Family Support Service Inc
- Got Your Back Sista
- Kiray Putjung Aboriginal Corporation
- Rotary Club of Cessnock
- Samaritans
- We Care Connect
- We Help Ourselves
Cessnock City Deputy Mayor Sarah Pascoe said Christmas could be a difficult time for many people.
"Christmas can place extra pressure on individuals and families already doing it tough, and even a small donation can have a big impact," said Deputy Mayor Pascoe.
"I encourage our community to get behind this wonderful initiative and help bring some joy and relief to those who need it most."
General Manager Natalia Cowley said the annual appeal reflected the generosity and compassion that define the Cessnock community.
"Year after year, our community shows an incredible willingness to support one another, and the Christmas Appeal is a great example of that spirit in action," said Ms Cowley.
"We're proud to partner with local organisations that work tirelessly to support people in need and help ensure more families can enjoy a brighter Christmas."
For health and safety reasons, Council can only accept brand new items that have not been wrapped. Visit Council's Administration Building at 62-78 Vincent Street, Cessnock, to donate to the Christmas Appeal.
