The Finocchiaro CLP Government is driving education reform to lift literacy and numeracy across the Northern Territory, with 2025 NAPLAN results showing progress.
Minister for Education, Jo Hersey, said the Boosting Literacy and Numeracy Plan here will give every student a stronger foundation in reading and maths.
"The evidence is clear - explicit teaching works. From next year, every NT Government school will adopt this approach because our kids deserve the best start in life," Minister Hersey said.
"This is about delivering results, not excuses. Under Labor, school attendance collapsed and outcomes flatlined. We're turning that around by getting kids back in the classroom and giving teachers the tools that work."
Today's release of the 2025 NAPLAN results highlights the impact of our reforms, with Territory-wide participation rates rising from 79.4% in 2024 to 81.5% in 2025.
"More children, including more Aboriginal children, are now sitting NAPLAN thanks to our School Attendance Officers who are out there every day getting kids to school," Minister Hersey said.
"But higher participation also exposes the scale of the challenge ahead. We will not shy away from that - we will keep driving attendance and building strong literacy and numeracy foundations."
The CLP Government's Secondary Education Reforms here will also deliver more stability, choice and opportunity for students from Year 7 to Year 12, ensuring a seamless education pathway across the Territory.
"Every child, no matter where they live, deserves a quality education and a real chance at a great future. These reforms deliver on that commitment - and as part of our year of action, certainty and security, we'll keep driving this work," Minister Hersey said.
