NEWPORT - Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday visited Newport, Rhode Island, June 28 to engage with Sailors and Navy civilians.

"Naval Station Newport is home to schools and commands that unequivocally shape the future of our Sailors and our Navy," said Gilday. "As we look to the future, we must make sure every Sailor can out-think and outfight any adversary. Those Sailors here are learning how to do that day-in and day-out."

While at Naval Station Newport, CNO met with Distinguished International Fellows at the U.S. Naval War College, and Navy Education Training Commands staff and students, including Surface Warfare Officers School Command; Navy Supply Corps School; Naval Chaplaincy School and Center; Officer Training Command; Naval Justice School; Maritime Security Squadron 8; Naval Undersea Warfare Center; and Naval Leadership and Ethics Command.

"Our Sailors, both uniformed and civilian, are the strength of our Navy, and will give us an edge over any competitor," said Gilday. "What we've seen today makes me certain our Navy's future, and our Sailors, are unmatched."

Gilday also met with U.S. Naval War College President Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield to discuss ongoing preparations for the upcoming International Seapower Symposium, scheduled Sept. 14-17, 2021. ISS provides a forum for dialogue between international navies and coast guards to bolster maritime security by providing opportunities for international heads of navies and coast guards to collaborate, develop trust, and further navy-to-navy training.

Naval Station Newport is home to 50 different commands and is the Navy's premier site for training and educating officers, officer candidates, senior enlisted personnel and midshipman candidates into future leaders, as well as testing and evaluating advanced undersea warfare and development systems.
