Cold Front Hits Southeast, Rest of U.S. Stays Calm

BOM
Hello, Miriam at the Bureau with your national weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday the 26th of September.

Taking a look at tomorrow's weather map, we can see areas of high pressure moving across eastern parts of the country, pushing back through the north and moving on to the west coast as well. That means generally settled conditions in these areas, and plenty of sunshine is expected as well.

A bit of a different story in the south-east, where a low pressure trough and cold front will be moving through, bringing a fresh burst of windy conditions and showers for some of our southeastern areas. Let's take a state by state look at tomorrow's forecast now, starting with Queensland.

A few isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast tomorrow, but they'll be on the clearing trend, heading towards mostly dry conditions that the rest of the state can expect for our Friday. Temperatures generally close to or slightly above average for Brisbane, we're heading for a top of 29 degrees with mostly sunny conditions.

Down in New South Wales tomorrow, a generally dry, sunny and settled day across much of the state. We will, however, see some windy conditions developing in parts, particularly about the southern and central ranges pushing out towards parts of the east coast as well.

A severe weather warning for damaging winds is in place for the southern ranges and Snowy Mountains for damaging winds likely to develop from tomorrow morning, continuing through until later in the day tomorrow. For Sydney, though, it will be a mostly sunny day with a top of 29 degrees.

Down in Canberra becoming windy but mostly sunny with a top of 22 degrees.

Down in Victoria tomorrow, partly cloudy conditions on and south of the ranges with a few showers moving through. Those showers are likely to become more widespread later in the day, as a low pressure trough approaches then sweeps through. We could also see some isolated thunderstorms across parts of the south, including around the Melbourne area through the afternoon and evening. By contrast, it's going to be drier and sunnier in the north and north-west of the state.

For Melbourne tomorrow, we're looking at a few showers moving through, more likely later in the day, with a top of 22 degrees.

Down in Tasmania tomorrow, another fairly showery day with those showers really focused through the north-west of the state. Another 20 to 40mm is possible in those areas for our Friday. Lower rainfall totals are expected through the east and south-east.

For Hobart, we're generally expecting less than 5mm or so. Could see some breezy conditions at times as well, with winds turning from north north westerlies to westerlies as this cold front moves through later on. For Hobart, we'll see a shower or two during the day and a top of 17 degrees.

In South Australia tomorrow, we are expecting a generally dry and mostly sunny day across much of the state. Partly cloudy through parts of the south-east, however, with isolated showers across the lower south-east. Generally low rainfall totals expected there. For Adelaide tomorrow, a mostly sunny day with a top of 22 degrees.

In Western Australia tomorrow, a generally warm, dry and sunny day, yet again across the west. We could see temperatures closer to or slightly below average across the far south coast, however, partly cloudy skies and a few isolated showers moving through there. For Perth, though, it will be a dry day. Mostly sunny with a top of 22 degrees.

In the Northern Territory tomorrow, the chance of some morning fog across parts of the eastern Arnhem Land. It will be a partly cloudy day across the Top End. Slight chance of a shower or two about some of those coastal parts of the Top End too. Generally dry and sunny conditions elsewhere, with winds starting to ease back as well. For Darwin tomorrow, we're looking at a mostly sunny day and a top of 35 degrees.
