Community Consultation begins for new Dayboro police facility

Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services The Honourable Mark Ryan

Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan MP today joined Deputy Commissioner Doug Smith for the beginning of community consultation about a replacement Dayboro police facility.

A tender call for the construction of the replacement police facility is currently scheduled for October 2022, with construction expected to commence in early 2023 and be completed by the end of 2023.

Deputy Commissioner Smith said the new facility would replace the current station which was built in 1961.

"The original Dayboro Police Station was built in 1916 and was replaced in 1961, Deputy Commissioner Smith said.

"The new police facility will provide general duty policing functions and cater for future operational requirements.

"I am very proud of the work our officers do in this part of the state and am keen to hear what our community members require from police in the area.

"Dayboro Police will be working from the Dayboro Queensland Ambulance Service complex in the interim."

Pine Rivers MP, Nikki Boyd, said she was tremendously excited to see the start of community consultation for what will be an important community asset.

"I have advocated very strongly on behalf of the local community to get this project underway, and it is heartening to see so much emphasis being placed on providing a new facility that suits the needs of the local community."

Minster Ryan said the Queensland Government had committed $4 million for the facility to ensure the new replacement met the future operational requirements of the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

"The proposed replacement facility will provide accommodation for up to 12 officers and administration staff and will include an officer in charge, general duties day room, equipment store, holding cell and interview room," Minister Ryan said.

"I am very grateful to our Queensland Ambulance Service colleagues who have agreed to accommodate our Dayboro police officers for the duration of the construction.

"I am pleased to be here today with members of the Dayboro community to ensure this new facility meets their policing needs now, and well into the future."
