Community Help To Shape Infrastructure Vision

Consultation is continuing on the draft Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan (CISP), with plenty of opportunity still available to provide feedback.

The draft plan proposes a 30-year vision for community facilities and open spaces to help guide short, medium and long-term planning and investment.

More than 1,030 survey submissions have been made since the survey opened two weeks ago, with participants providing a total of 10,310 recommendations to the facility proposals, so far.

The draft plan has been informed by community input gathered during the last 18 months, as well as usage data, benchmarking against industry standards and best practice.

The current engagement phase presents proposals for the 637 existing recreation facilities, parks, open spaces and community buildings in the Shoalhaven and outlines potential options for future community infrastructure.

CEO Andrew Constance said community feedback remains vital at this stage of the process and that no decisions have been made by Council.

"I want to thank the community so far for their great input," Mr Constance said.

"This draft plan reflects what we've heard from the community so far which has typically been consistent with the data that we have on usage of facilities, but it is not a final position at this stage," he said.

"We recognise the value communities place on their local park, hall or playground and want to be sure to capture everyone's feedback as part of this review process to determine the vision for our community assets over the next 30 years."

"To date, the community has told us that they expect more investment in the places that they use, and this plan proposes to invest $800 million over the next three decades to do that, as well as build additional facilities needed in the region."

"Right now, we're asking people to review the proposals and tell us what they think before anything is presented to the elected Council for their consideration later this year," he said.
