Parkes Shire Council is encouraging the community to review the draft Tanks Road Masterplan and Servicing Strategy and provide feedback before the public exhibition closes on 30 October 2026.

The draft masterplan provides a long-term framework to guide the future growth of the Tanks Road precinct in East Parkes, considering how future housing, roads, parks and open space, drainage, infrastructure and local services could be coordinated as the area develops.

Importantly, the masterplan is currently a draft. Council is seeking community feedback now so local knowledge, ideas and concerns can be considered before the plan is finalised.

Parkes Shire Mayor Neil Westcott encouraged residents, landowners and the broader community to take the time to look at the draft and have their say.

"This is an important opportunity for our community to have input into how this part of Parkes could develop over the long term," the Mayor said.

"We want people to look at the draft Masterplan, consider what is being proposed and tell us what they think.

"Whether you live nearby, own land in the precinct or are simply interested in the future growth of Parkes, your feedback is valuable. The public exhibition process allows Council to hear local perspectives before the masterplan is finalised.

"I encourage everyone who has an interest in the future of the Tanks Road area to take the time to review the document and provide their feedback before the exhibition closes on 30 October."

The draft masterplan identifies a preferred land use structure for the precinct, including future residential neighbourhoods, a road network, open space and environmental management areas, servicing infrastructure and a neighbourhood-scale commercial centre to support the daily needs of future residents.

The proposed road network includes connections to Renshaw McGirr Way, Henry Parkes Way and Tanks Road, while environmental management land is proposed to accommodate existing overland stormwater flow paths.

Council has secured $185,799 through the NSW Government's Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund Round 3 to prepare a Masterplan and Servicing Strategy for the East Parkes residential growth area.

The East Parkes growth area comprises two precincts - Harrowvale and Tanks Road - which will be planned and delivered as separate projects.

The Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund, administered by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, supports regional councils to undertake strategic planning projects that help accelerate housing supply, affordability, diversity and resilience across NSW.

The Draft Tanks Road Masterplan does not, by itself, approve development or rezone land. It provides a strategic framework to guide future planning for the precinct.

Feedback received during the public exhibition period will be considered by Council and may result in changes being recommended before the masterplan is finalised.

Council welcomes feedback from landowners, residents, developers, government agencies and the broader community. Feedback can address matters including housing, neighbourhood design, roads and connections, open space, drainage, infrastructure and the facilities future residents may need.

Have your say
