The McGowan Government is calling on the Western Australian community to come to the historic Subiaco Oval for one last time, before work starts on the transformation of the surrounding grandstands into Subi East.
A special event will mark the important role Subi has played as a sporting and entertainment venue, which will be retained and recognised as part of the Subi East redevelopment.
The community open day will offer people a chance to mingle on the turf and enjoy entertainment and activities including kick-to-kick, face painting, live radio broadcasts, historical tributes and the opportunity to meet some legends of the game.
The Final Siren Fun Day is taking place on Sunday June 30, 2019, from 11am to 2pm. Entry will be free, with access to the oval, parts of the stands, food trucks and a range of entertainment and activities.
LandCorp and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority have worked with a number of stakeholders including the City of Subiaco, Perth Modern School, the WA Football Commission and Subiaco Football Club to ensure Subi's stadium is given a fitting send off.
Information about the 35.6-hectare Subi East redevelopment, which retains the oval playing surface as a community facility, will also be available on the day.
Encompassing the land around the oval and the former Princess Margaret Hospital site, Subi East will transform into a vibrant, connected inner-city residential precinct where the community can live, work and play.
Many elements of the stadium will be protected and retained during the redevelopment process to ensure the site history is recognised and celebrated into the future.
Subiaco will maintain its strong links to AFL football, with the WA Football Commission to build its new headquarters at Subi East.
The stories and heritage of the Whadjuk people will also be recognised and shared, reflecting their ancient connection to the area.
Community feedback and ideas were sought for development of the Vision Concept for Subi East. A master planning phase will be launched later in 2019 to help determine the final planning parameters.
