Community Mural Unveiled In Port Augusta

A vibrant new mural has been unveiled in Port Augusta, showcasing the voices and creativity of local young people.

Between Monday 11 May and Thursday, 14 May, local Aboriginal artist Scott Rathman, supported by South Australia Police (SAPOL) and the Department of Human Services, worked with local youth to create the 60-metre mural.

The project was initiated following discussions between local SAPOL Community Constables and Mr Rathman, with Far North Region Crime Prevention Section securing funding through the Port Augusta and Davenport Community Alliance.

Titled "This Place is Us: our voices, our story, our way," the mural reflects identity, culture and shared stories, with a strong focus on the role of Elders and connection to community.

The rear wall of Electrical Discounters was generously provided for the project, and the finished mural can be viewed from Yuda Street.

The initiative highlights the positive outcomes that can be achieved through collaboration between police, partner agencies and the community to support young people and strengthen community connections.
