Operation Yankee Station At Cairns

Detectives from the Major and Organise Crime Squad Far Northern (MOCS) have charged five people with 29 drug and weapons offences, as part of Operation Yankee Station.

On Wednesday 19 August, officers from MOCS with support from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch, Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit, Far North Dog Squad, and Far North Tactical Crime Squad executed six search warrants in Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Redlynch, Kewarra Beach and Yorkeys Knob.

It will be alleged in total police seized 500g of methylamphetamine, 4g of ketamine, 560g of cannabis, four MDMA tablets, 16 LSD tabs, three glass pipes, an air rifle, and more than $81,000 in cash.

A 36-year-old Palm Cove man was arrested at the Trinity Beach property and charged with two counts of contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4 (Methylamphetamine), possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4, (Methylamphetamine), possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, and evade police.

He was refused police bail to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 21 August.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the Trinity Beach property and charged with one count each of producing dangerous drugs, possess utensils or pipes that had been used etc, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, vehicles used on roads must be registered, offence to operate vehicle during number plate confiscation period, offence to operate vehicle during number plate confiscation period, and drive uninsured vehicle.

He was issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 1 September.

A 44-year-old Trinity Beach woman was arrested at the Trinity Beach property and charged with possess utensils or pipes that had been used etc.

She was dealt with via way of adult caution.

A 33-year-old Redlynch man was arrested at a Redlynch address and was charged with five counts of possess dangerous drugs, two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4 and offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, and one count each of unlawful possession of a category M weapon, possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, and possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2.

He was issued a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 4 September.

A 27-year-old Kewarra Beach man was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4 (Methylamphetamine), possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, possess property suspected of being stolen, and offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 9 September.

Major and Organised Crime Squad Officer in Charge Detective Sergeant Brad Grace said police will continue to target dangerous drugs causing harm in the community.

"We see the devastating impacts illicit substances can have on the community, from serious health issues to violence and crime," Detective Senior Sergeant Grace said.

"Removing significant quantities of drugs means less substances on our streets, and reduce harm to individuals, families, and frontline responders.

"We will continue to target those who think this type of offending is tolerated and put them before the court."
