State Flying Squad Surge Into Townsville

The enhanced State Flying Squad (SFS) has completed its 27th deployment to the Townsville District to support local police and help make the community safer.

Over the course of the deployment, SFS investigators charged 15 adults with 53 charges and 15 young people with 63 charges, ranging from property crime to drug and domestic violence offences.

The Squad provided an investigative surge capacity, supporting local policing activities by executing search warrants, providing victim support, and conducting proactive operations and high-visibility patrols alongside local officers.

Officers from the Squad's in-built intelligence unit also deployed to the region, to assist in identifying and locating targets, and provide real-time information to help apprehend serious offenders who continue to cause harm to the Townsville community.

During the deployment, SFS investigators and local police executed a search warrant, forcing entry into an Oliver Court residence in Vincent.

Officers allegedly located and seized a quantity of dangerous drugs including methylamphetamine, illicit prescription drugs, cannabis, scales, utensils and cash.

A 41-year-old Vincent woman was arrested and charged with three counts of possess dangerous drugs and one count each of possess property suspected of being proceeds, possess utensils, possess things used in connection and one count of failure to dispose of syringes.

She is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 25 August.

A 22-year-old Vincent woman was arrested and charged with two counts each of possess dangerous drugs and one count of possess utensils.

She is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 31 August.

Earlier in the deployment, SFS officers attended a Wulguru residence to arrest a 17-year-old male for 18 property and drug offences.

He was charged with six counts of attempted burglary, four counts of burglary, three counts of UUMV and one count each of attempted fraud, enter premises and commit, possess tainted property, possess dangerous drugs and possess utensils.

He was remanded in custody and is next expected to appear in Townsville Childrens Court on 24 September.

Detective Inspector Joe Nixon of the State Flying Squad said the Squad and local police will continue to work tirelessly to apprehend offenders who repeatedly cause harm to the community.

"The SFS supports local Townsville police operations, providing an investigative surge capacity as needed, to help the local community feel safer and deter further criminal behaviour with increased police visibility," Detective Inspector Nixon said.

"The Squad provides extra boots on the ground, strengthening the great work being done by the local police every day.

"We'll continue to deploy as needed I look forward to seeing these fantastic results continue as we work collaboratively with local police and other specialist units."
