Community Push Advances Cycling Initiatives in Baw Baw

Baw Baw Shire Council is embarking on an exciting new initiative to enhance cycling infrastructure across the Shire and is calling for community members to come forward and play a pivotal role.

The council is forming the Baw Baw Cycling Project Reference Group (PRG), seeking passionate cyclists to provide valuable input into future cycling projects throughout the region. It will collaborate closely with Council Officers to explore and identify opportunities for improved cycling facilities, ensuring that the future cycling landscape in Baw Baw is both inclusive and forward-thinking.

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire, Cr Annemarie McCabe, emphasises the importance of community involvement in this initiative. "Cycling is a very popular activity in our Shire, ranging from BMX to road racing, pump tracks and criterium. To cater to this diversity, it is important that the voices of our cyclists are heard to guide how we can best meet their varied needs," says Cr McCabe.

The formation of the PRG follows the recent discontinuation of the Logan Park Cycling Centre of Excellence Project, which was halted due to unviable ground conditions at the proposed site.

Mayor McCabe says that the formation of the reference group demonstrates Council's undampened commitment to supporting the cycling community.

"While it was disappointing to discontinue the Cycling Centre of Excellence Project, our commitment to providing top-notch recreational infrastructure remains unwavering. The Cycling PRG represents an exciting new chapter. We are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with our cycling community to put the wheels in motion project on range of exciting new projects."

How to Get Involved

Residents of Baw Baw who are keen on shaping the future of cycling in the Shire are encouraged to express their interest in joining the PRG.
