Edward River Council is inviting the community to come together this November to celebrate 150 years of the Deniliquin Town Hall, one of the region's most cherished landmarks and a building that has been at the heart of community life for generations.
Since opening its doors in November 1876, the Deniliquin Town Hall has stood proudly at the centre of community life, hosting civic ceremonies, celebrations, performances, meetings and significant events that have helped shape the Edward River region across generations.
To commemorate the anniversary, a week of activities will be held from 23 to 27 November 2026, culminating in a Commemorative Civic Celebration and Community Celebration at the Town Hall on Friday 27 November.
The celebrations will include guided tours of the historic building throughout the week, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to explore the Town Hall's rich history and unique architectural features. The anniversary events on 27 November will feature reflections on the building's legacy, community performances, birthday celebrations and family-friendly entertainment.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the milestone was an opportunity for the community to reflect on the important role the Town Hall has played in the life of Deniliquin.
"For 150 years, the Deniliquin Town Hall has been the backdrop to countless community milestones, celebrations and gatherings. It holds a special place in the hearts of many residents and remains one of our region's most recognisable landmarks.
"This anniversary is a chance to honour the generations who have contributed to our community's story and to celebrate one of Deniliquin's most enduring landmarks. I encourage everyone to come along, reconnect with our shared history and be part of this special occasion," said Mayor Hall.
Chief Executive Officer Jack Bond said the anniversary highlighted the Town Hall's lasting significance to the Edward River region.
"Council has invested significantly in recent years to restore and conserve this iconic building, returning it to its former glory and ensuring it can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for generations to come.
"As we celebrate 150 years of the Town Hall, we are not only recognising its rich history, but also its ongoing place at the heart of our community," said Mr Bond.
Council is encouraging residents, former residents and visitors to take part in the celebrations and discover the stories, people and events that have helped make the Deniliquin Town Hall such an important part of the region's identity.
