Digital Transformation and Women's Employment in Arab Region

Drawing on labour force surveys and 24.9 million online job vacancies from the ESCWA Skills Monitor, ESCWA is preparing a new technical paper on digital transformation, artificial intelligence and women's employment in the Arab region.

On 13 October, the Commission convened an online expert group meeting to review the paper, which finds that employers in the region mostly seek broad digital and AI-adjacent skills rather than highly specialized AI expertise. Many women already have matching skill profiles, yet structural barriers continue to prevent them from turning their qualifications into decent jobs.

Labour economists and gender experts from the region and beyond validated the methodology and findings and identified priorities for future work.
