Ninety-four community groups and individuals will share over $190,000 from Corangamite Shire Council's 2022-2023 grants program.
Funding from Community Grants, Enabling Grants, Facility Grants, Environment Grants and Events and Festivals Grants programs was allocated at the July Council meeting.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said this year's program had been restructured from previous years following feedback from the community.
"The Community Grants Program had been receiving fewer and fewer applications in recent years so Council spoke to community groups to find out if there was a better way to meet their needs," Cr Gstrein said.
"Based on their feedback, we doubled the maximum amount to $2,000 and did away with the requirement for matching funding for the Community Grants stream. We also established a new Enabling Grants stream to get project plans 'shovel ready' so they could source project funding.
Cr Gstrein said Council was pleased to support the community through the grant programs each year.
"After the disruption caused by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, this funding will help reactivate clubs and community groups and help reconnect our residents with new events.
"The grants also allow investment in the environment and community assets to ensure they are maintained and improved to give residents many diverse opportunities into the future."
Cr Gstrein praised the groups, clubs and individuals who had applied.
"It's really terrific that so many people in our community are proactive about such a wide range of projects that reinforce the social fabric of our Shire and make it a great place to live."
The Events and Festivals Grants Program offers up to $15,000, made up of a maximum of $10,000 grant funding and a maximum of $5,000 of in-kind support. It is intended for bigger events that increase visitation and stimulate economic activity in the Shire. Ten successful applicants received a combined $16,326.
The Community Grants Program offers up to $2,000 towards community activities and events including workshops and equipment purchases, planning activities and the development of new community, leisure, cultural or recreational programs. Thirty-two successful applicants received a combined $43,050.
The Facility Grants Program offers up to $2,000 (on a dollar-for-dollar basis) to Committees and clubs or organisations whose primary function in the Shire is to help with facility improvements or equipment. Thirty successful applicants received a combined $49,899.45.
The Environment Support Grants Program offers up to $2,500 (on a dollar-for-dollar basis) for environment and sustainability projects, including installation of energy and water saving items at community facilities. Twenty successful applicants received a combined $40,756.
Council voted to use a $9,244 surplus from the Environment Support Grants Program for another smaller grant round of this program later in the 2022-2023 financial year.
Eligibility will be limited to projects related to climate change, sustainable agriculture, and increasing energy, water and waste efficiency.
The Enabling Grants Program offers up to $5,000 to assist community groups to develop 'shovel-ready projects'. These grants can pay for business case preparation, scoping, community consultation, plans and drawings, permits and approvals or engagement of professional grant-writing or other assistance to secure project funding. Two successful applicants received a combined $6,950.
