Community Sings For Reconciliation

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin, in partnership with Darwin Beach Choir will host Voices for Reconciliation, a free community event bringing people together through music, connection and celebration.

The event tomorrow will feature a unique community choir experience, with participants invited to join in a reimagined mash-up of two iconic Australian songs, You're the Voice and Beds Are Burning, performed as one shared voice for reconciliation.

Open to all members of the community, the event requires no prior singing experience. Participants are encouraged to simply attend, learn the song on the day and be part of an inclusive and joyful shared experience.

The event contributes to broader activities leading into national Reconciliation Week 2026 from 27 May to 3 June, with the theme All In. The theme calls on all Australians to commit to reconciliation every day and to take action to make change.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said City of Darwin remains committed to actively supporting reconciliation and strengthening relationships with Australia's First Peoples and organisations.

"We encourage participation in initiatives like Voices for Reconciliation as they provide a simple, inclusive way for people to come together, build understanding and strengthen connection," he said.

"We acknowledge there is significant learning ahead, and we are committed to working together to build a shared future grounded in respect, understanding and connection."

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility across City of Darwin, and meaningful change can only be achieved through collective action and commitment, he said.

Reconciliation Week is a time dedicated to building positive, respectful relationships between Australians and celebrating First Nations' culture.
